• SCENE 1 EXT. SUPERMARKET – DAY
  FLORA(60) is coming out of a supermarket carrying a nylon.
  Then she sees an old friend UGO(60).

FLORA
(smiling)

Ugo.
Flora.

Then they hug.

FLORA
(smiling)
It’s been so long since we met.

UGO
I know right. Ever since my
family moved away from the street
over fifteen years ago. It’s so
good to see you again.

FLORA
Me too. So how is your family?

UGO
We are all fine. Four of my kids
are married now.

FLORA
Wow that’s so nice. I am happy for you.

UGO
(smiling)
Thank you. I am sure your son
Obinna will be married by now with kids.

FLORA
(uncomfortable) Not yet.
UGO

(surprised)
UGO
(smiling)
Not yet. But wait your son and my
son are agemates from what I can
remember and my son is thirty
eight. Wow I am really surprised.
But hopefully you will become a
grandmother soon just like me. I
tell you it’s such a wonderful feeling.
OFF on Flora’s uncomfortable look.

SCENE 2 INT. FLORA’S HOUSE – LIVIN ROOM – DAY
Flora’s house is very nice and suiting for a rich woman.
Flora is walking behind her son OBINNA(38) and they are arguing.

OBINNA
(annoyed)
Mum what is it again with this
whole marriage thing?

FLORA
(angry)
Would you keep quiet! I am talking to you!
Then Obinna stops walking and turns to face her.

FLORA
Obinna where did I go wrong in
raising you? Tell me! Obinna you
are thirty eight years old, no
wife, no child, nothing!

OBINNA
Mum I am not ready for marriage yet.
FLORA
If you are not ready for marriage
well I am ready to be a
grandmother. Think about me. Am I
getting any younger? I want to
carry my grandchildren. All my
friends are grandmothers apart
from me. Aren’t you thinking of

FLORA (CONT’D)
your father’s lineage. You are
our only son and our only child for that matter.

OBINNA
Mum there’s nothing going to
happen to Dad’s lineage. i am a
man. It doesn’t matter what time
I get married. I will still be
able to have children even at forty, sixty or eighty.

FLORA
Obinna you have lost your senses
at this point. Obinna what have I
done to you to deserve this.
Then she starts crying.

FLORA
(crying)
I want to carry my grandchildren.
I am not getting any younger. Why
are you so stubborn?

OBINNA
why are you crying?

FLORA
(crying)
How I wish your father was still
alive all this will not be happening.
OFF on Flora crying.

SCENE 3 INT. OBINNA’S APARTMENT – LIVING ROOM – DAY
Obinna’s PHONE RINGS on the table.
Then he comes from inside and walks to where the phone is and picks up the call.

OBINNA
(into phone)
Uncle Fred.
Then he pauses.

OBINNA

(shocked)
What! I am on my way there now.
Obinna cuts are the call, picks up his car key and
quickly exits.

SCENE 4 INT. HOSPITAL – ROOM – LATER
Flora is asleep on the bed connected to a drip while
Obinna is standing opposite FRED(65) the Doctor.

OBINNA
(anxious)
Uncle Fred what happened to my mother?

FRED
Your domestic staff Mercy brought
her here after finding her on the floor unconscious.

OBINNA
So how is she?
Then Fred inhales deeply.

FRED
Obinna we need to talk in my office.

SCENE 5 INT. HOSPITAL – OFFICE – CONTINUOUS
Fred and Obinna are sitting opposite each other.

OBINNA
(surprised)
My mother has cancer.

FRED
Your mother has been sick for
some time now and the test
results just confirmed that it’s
cancer. Cancer of the breast to
be precise. I am so sorry.

OBINNA
How is this even possible?

FRED
Obinna we will do our best to
save her. It is still at an early
stage so with constant treatment
she can eventually be cancer free
but still anything can happen at
anytime. That’s why you need to
show her love, do whatever she
wants you to do because tomorrow is not assured.
OFFF on Fred’s surprised face.

SCENE 6 INT. HOSPITAL – ROOM – DAY
Obinna is standing and holding Flora’s hand.

FLORA
Just tell me already what did Fred say?

OBINNA
He said you have breast cancer.
Flora is in shock.

OBINNA
But mum he said he is going to do
his best to make sure you become
cancer free and by God’s grace I
believe it will happen. Okay.
Then Flora turns the other way and tears roll down her eyes.

OBINNA (sad)
Mum please don’t cry.
OFF on tears rolling down her eyes.

SCENE 7 INT. OBINNA’S APARTMENT – LIVING ROOM – LATER
Obinna walks into his living room from his entrance door. He looks very sad as he walks to the chair slowly.
He sits down and after some seconds he begins to cry.
OFF on him crying.

WEEKS LATER
SCENE 8 INT. FLORA’S APARTMENT – LIVING ROOM – DAY
Flora and Obinna are walking into the living room while
Obinna is holding a small bag.
Their domestic staff MERCY(25) opens the door.
Mercy is wearing a uniform.

MERCY
Welcome Ma. Welcome brother Obinna.

OBINNA
Thank you.
Flora is walking slowly and sits down and Mercy takes the bag.

OBINNA
Mercy please get something for my mother to eat.

MERCY
Okay Sir.
Then Mercy exits carrying the bag and Obinna sits down
close to her and holds her hand.

OBINNA
Mum you will be fine okay.

SCENE 9 INT. FLORA’S HOUSE – BEDROOM – LATER
Flora is lying on the bed while Obinna is sitting next to her.

OBINNA
Mum I will be leaving now because
I need to be at work in the
morning but I will be back in the afternoon.

FLORA
Please wait. I need to tell you
something very important.

OBINNA
Okay what do you want to tell me?

FLORA
Obinna I don’t how long I have yet to live.

OBINNA
Mum don’t say that.

FLORA
Obinna let me finish. Tomorrow is
not assured and that’s the truth.
I just need you to fulfill my wish before I go.

OBINNA
Mum you are not going anywhere.

FLORA
Obinna please just fulfill this
wish, that’s all I am asking.

OBINNA
Okay fine. What wish is it?

FLORA
That you get married in a month time.

OBINNA
(shocked )
What! Mum that is not even
possible is not like I am engaged to someone already.

FLORA
Okay three months. Obinna please
fulfill this wish of mine, that’s all I am asking.
Obinna the other way and doesn’t way and doesn’t say anything.

FLORA
Please just do this for me. I beg
you that’s the only way I will be
happy. I want to carry my grand children before—-

OBINNA
Okay fine. I will do it. I will
get married in three as long as it makes you happy.

FLORA
(smiling)
Thank you my son.
OFF on Flora smiling.

SCENE 10 INT. OBINNA’S APARTMENT – LIVING ROOM – DAY
Obinna is sitting down on the chair while his phone is on top of the table.

OBINNA
Okay I got this. I will get
married in three months. Even
though I am not ready but I will
do it for my mother.
Then he pauses.

OBINNA
But who am I going to get married
to? There’s Sandra, Tola, Vivian
and what’s that other girls name
I met the other day Seyi and
there’s also Chioma. But I can’t
marry chioma she talks too much
and I can’t stand her. She is too
lousy. So I am left with four
women to choose from, who will I marry now?
Obinna is thinking.

OBINNA
Maybe Sandra because I have known
her the longest. Okay let me call her.
Then he picks his phone.

OBINNA
(into phone)
Hey Sandra. How are you doing?

SANDRA(V.O)
Obinna didn’t you read the text I sent you few days ago?

OBINNA
What text?

SANDRA(V.O)
You see my problem with you. You
are never present. It’s asif I am
the only one in the relationship.

OBINNA
comm Sandra don’t say that, that’s not true.

SANDRA(V.O)
Obinna I broke up with you in the
text. it’s over between us okay.
And please don’t call my number again.

Then she HISSES and cuts the call.

OBINNA
Sandra please wait.
Then he realises that she cut the call.

OBINNA
So she broke up with me. Anyway
that’s three more to go.
Then he places a call again.

OBINNA
(into phone)
Hi Tola. How are you doing?
Then Tola cuts the call and we can hear it.

OBINNA
(surprised)
What? She cut the call on me. No
wahala. Two more to go.

FEW MOMENTS LATER
Obinna is standing and talking to Vivian on the phone.

OBINNA
(into phone)
Vivian how are you doing?
Then he pauses.

OBINNA

I would love to go out with you
one of these days.
Then he pauses.

OBINNA
You travelled and you are not
coming back to Nigeria, when did
this happen?

FEW MOMENTS lATER
Obinna is sitting on the chair.

OBINNA
(into phone)
Seyi how are you doing?
Then he pauses.

OBINNA
Ahan what do you mean by who is
this? I took your number two
weeks ago when we met at the
club. Can’t you remember? Hello.
SEYI
Then Seyi cuts the calls.
Then he puts down the phone angrily on the table.

OBINNA
You know what I give up.
OFF on his frustrated look.
